Hummer Could Learn Fate Tuesday

In a restructuring plan submitted to the federal government in February, General Motors announced plans to sell or cease manufacturing several of its automotive brands. In rejecting the proposal on Monday, The Detroit News notes, the White Houses automotive industry task force “said GM’s plan to close, shrink or sell four of its eight brands didn’t go far enough.”

Now, the four await news of their fate.

Budget Alternative In House, Not Senate

The top Republican on the House Budget Committee said today that Republicans will introduce their long-awaited budget alternative tomorrow. Many expected to see a detailed explanation of the GOP budget last week, but Republican leaders distributed a vague, 17-page “blueprint” that drew criticism from the White House.

Tata Nano: World's Cheapest Car Could Come to U.S.

Today, the least expensive car you can buy in the United States retails for just under $10,000. If an Indian company gets its way, in a few years, that sum could buy you five cars.

General Motors CEO Rick Wagoner out, replaced by COO Fritz Henderson :

General Motors chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner has agreed to “step aside” after pressure from the Obama administration last week, ending his eight-year tenure at the helm as the company seeks additional federal aid. He’s been replaced by GM President and COO Fritz Henderson, effective immediately. GM confirmed the moves shortly after midnight Monday.

House Passes Omnibus Lands Bill

The House passed today the Omnibus Lands Bill that the Senate approved last week. The final tally was 285-140, with 38 Republicans voting for the bill and four Democrats voting against it.
