In a restructuring plan submitted to the federal government in February, General Motors announced plans to sell or cease manufacturing several of its automotive brands. In rejecting the proposal on Monday, The Detroit News notes, the White Houses automotive industry task force “said GM’s plan to close, shrink or sell four of its eight brands didn’t go far enough.”

General Motors chairman and CEO Rick Wagoner has agreed to “step aside” after pressure from the Obama administration last week, ending his eight-year tenure at the helm as the company seeks additional federal aid.
